The summer has gone by fast and here it is, time for our Shriver Get together.  I hope you are all as excited as we are to have everyone here with lots of time to visit this Saturday, August 14th.

Directions:

Derby Downs is located off Golf Course Road. Take Hwy 212 west through Watertown, turn right on first road past the Ramkota Event Center-on the left side of the highway, you will see Sheehan Cycle. I think this is 26th St. but I'm not sure. Turn RIGHT going north from Hwy 212 to the 4-way stop sign which is 4th Avenue. From the stop sign, turn left onto 4th Ave and go west to the next road going right, or north which is South Lake Drive. Once you are past the housing area, before you go down the hill, you will see a road on your left with a fence leading to Derby Downs. If you go down and see the rodeo arena, you have gone too far as Derby Downs is on the hill.

Derby Downs has a charge of $25.00/day and we have reserved it for two days. We thought to help with the expense of the fee, if everyone contributes $1.00, it will cover our cost but do not feel obligated to do so. We will have the facility all day Saturday and Sunday, lots of time to eat and visit.

Saturday, we will open Derby Downs at 9:00 unless someone wants to get up earlier and open it earlier!!! We will announce at dinner what time it will open on Sunday, depending on the cooks. We will have coffee all day long so don't plan on getting any sleep. Derby Downs has tables and Chairs we do not have access until Friday evening (if no one is using it) or Saturday morning, we are not sure what else is available. If I remember right, there are no pots, pans, bowls, utensils, kitchen supplies etc. so we will try and bring a variety of things in case you need to mix up a dish plus dish towels so EVERYONE can do dishes!!! We will be using paper plates, cups and plastic silverware!!! I have loads left over from graduation parties so get ready for purple and gold!!

As of right now, those who have responded gives us a count of 38-40 plus there may be a couple of guests so we say we are planning for 50 just to be sure plus we do not know how many great grandkids will attend. So whatever you bring, keep that number in your mind.

Now the food...

Saturday morning:  We are unsure how many will be here so have no plans for this meal.  We will have coffee and those who want, stop and buy some rolls/donuts for your family or whatever you would like.

Saturday Lunch:   We are planning on taco bar and ham sandwiches. We will also need potato chips, fruit salads, desserts/bars etc. for this meal.

(Ham, buns, taco meat, lettuce, cheese, hard and soft shells, salsa, nacho cheese, tortilla chips and refried beans will be provided by Larry and Mary and Heller's)

Saturday Evening Meal:  Chicken will be provided.  For this meal we thought it would be good to have potatoes of some kind, maybe potato salad or a variety of potato dishes for those who do not like potato salad mainly the kids?? Vegetables like corn, salads, foods that go with chicken and dinner rolls with butter. If you have a plentiful garden full of veggies, I think they would be enjoyed.

Relish trays, veggies for snacks, fruit trays are always welcomed.

We have two meals so hope you can all help out with food for both meals.

We also thought it would be helpful if everyone could bring munchies/dessert - bars or cookies!!

So that our menu will not be a surprise, we would really appreciate you to reply with an e-mail (I will try this again, there were only a couple responses with the last one) to let us know what you plan to bring so we can be sure we don't have all similar salads. We could also let you know at that time what needs to be filled in. We feel it would be safe to say, "Bring enough food / drinks to feed your own family!"

Dennis will get ice and coolers from where he works so that will be available.

If you have some pictures you would like to share, please feel free to bring them for bragging! Shrivers always like pictures.

We plan to visit and then sit and figure out when and where we want future reunions. It would be good to have the next get together in ink before you all leave to go home.

We are looking forward to a nice weekend of visiting.
